Isabell Merkley Mayfield age 88, died peacefully on Oct. 5, 2000, in Salt Lake City.

She was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Magrath, Alberta, Canada to Alva Marion Merkley and Jehzell Gibb. She was married to Orson Smith Mayfield on February 14, 1934, and later sealed to him in the Salt Lake Temple. Isabell graduated from the LDS Hospital nursing school in March 1933 and served with the Intermountain Blood Program from 1951-61, and with the LDS Hospital blood bank from 1961-71. After her husband died in 1973, she served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kentucky from 1975-76.

The most important things in life to Isabell were the Savior and His Church, her family, education, and extending hospitality. She had extraordinary faith, enjoyed family gatherings immensely, loved to read great literature, and enjoyed singing. She also appreciated her association with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a great lady who has influenced many for good and has freely spread sunshine and happiness throughout her life.

Isabell is survived by two sons, James Bruce Mayfield (Rosalind), who is currently serving a full-time mission in Texas, and David Merkley Mayfield (Judy) of Salt Lake City; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Allred; 26 grandchildren; 50 plus great-grandchildren; a brother, Cal, and a sister, Flora. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orson Smith Mayfield; a son, Clifford Orson Mayfield; a granddaughter, Celeste White Mayfield; and four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 19, 2000, 2 p.m., at the Kenwood First Ward, 1765 E. 3080 So., Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 So. 2300 E., in Salt Lake City, on Sun. evening, from 7-8:30 p.m., and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Funeral Chapel.
