In memory of
Mrs Ruth Burgess,
wife of
Nathaniel Burgess,
who died Dec.r 7, 1819,
in the eighty ninth
year of her age.
Why should we tremble to convey,
Their bodies to the tomb,
There the dear flesh of Jesus lay,
And left a long perfume.

Directions to grave: From the main entrance on Mayflower Avenue make a sharp right inside fence on to Linden Avenue (along fence) and follow to the 2nd entrance to Cypress Avenue (On left), bypassing the first. There is no sign, but it is diagonally across from the cemetery/First Parish Church connecting driveway. On Cypress Avenue proceed to the halfway point on the way to the tombs, which is just after the slight curve to the left (about 175 feet) and stop even with the Herman Delano grave on the right. The Burgess grave is straight in on the right about 37 feet/4 rows.

Note: Check out the change in the spelling of Burgess between the deaths of Nathaniel and his wife Ruth.

Note2: The transcriptions are written down on-site for best accuracy but due to the age of the markers mistakes on my part can still be made. I leave in misspellings, seemingly odd abbreviations and the old English character used in place of the letter 's' where found.
