1954 May 3 - Wexford County - John W Robinson was Sunday born Sunday 14 Aug 1864 in Ontario to Levi & Agnes (Pollock) Robinson. It is said that he came to Michigan at the age of 7. During his youth he farmed, worked on logging jobs and operated a country store. He was well known as a hunter and trapper and had packed a gun almost every year since he was old enough to carry a weapon. He spent the summer and fall months in Seney in the Upper Peninsula and the winter months he spent in Cherry Grove Twp. It is in the northern country where he gained the name 'Old Bear Hunter' after killing 17 bear in hunting and trapping. During deer season he never failed to bring home his buck. He immigrated to the US in 1865 and was naturalized in 1875. He married Della Nelson Tuesday 09 Nov 1886 in Cherry Grove Twp. After his divorce he married Eliza Boshaw Thursday 15 Dec 1904 in Cherry Grove Twp. He was a farmer.

John W Robinson died Thursday 3 May 1954 in Cherry Grove Twp. Survivors included 2 sons, Thomas Franklin Robinson and James Robinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza 15 Nov 1945, and his ex-wife, Della Kinney 08 Feb 1908.

Burial was in Section 4, Lot 26 in Cherry Grove Township Cemetery in Cadillac.
