Thelma Adkins
Thelma Adkins, 78, of Tye, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Feb. 11, 2009, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Chris Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at the funeral home.
Adkins died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Care Inn in Abilene. She was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Farwell. She married George Jenus Adkins July 4, 1949, in Clovis, N.M.
She was a member of the Baptist church. Adkins lived in Tye since 1983 and in Sweetwater from 1979 to 1983. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita Faye Green and husband Charles of Tye; three sons, Jenus Dale Adkins and wife Jeannie of Tye, James Thurman Adkins of Tye and Sammy Joe Adkins and wife Vicki of San Antonio; one brother, Donald Ray Brand and wife NetaFaye of Colleyville; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, on April 14, 1990.
Pallbearers will be Dale, Michael, Roger, Colton and James Adkins and Charles Green.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 209 South Danville Dr., Abilene, TX 79605.
