Winnie Leona McVoy
April 30, 1926 - January 31, 2009
Winnie Leona McVoy was born April 30, 1926 in Tanglewood to Alfred Adolph McVoy, Sr. and Lula Mae (Alexander) McVoy.
Winnie lived most of her life in Rockdale moving there at an early age from Tanglewood. She was the owner of McVoy Grocery and Feed store in Rockdale for over 60 years, She retired in October of 1999 after the sale of the store.
Winnie was a member of the First Christian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Busy Bees quilting club. While in school she enjoyed going on school trips with her teacher, Mrs. Margaret Lengert, to compete at County meets and Number Sense competitions. She was the Salutatorian of the Rockdale High School Class of 1943.
Winnie passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at her home in Rockdale, reaching the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Alfred Adolph McVoy, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Ann Todd and husband Brian of Rockdale; Sister-in-Law, Hilda McVoy; Nieces, Janice Pelzel & husband Bobby, Mary Jo Bennett and Lori McVoy; Great Nieces, Hilary Bennett and Jenny Frei; Great Nephews, Jeff Gebhart, Jason Gebhart & wife Sunny and Justin Bennett; also a special friend and care giver, Ruth Martinez.
A Memorial service was held on Monday, February 2, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Rockdale.
