Born in McAlester, he was the son of Ed and Eva (Gibson) Perteet. He served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1929 through 1937. He then entered the Army Air Corps in January 1942 and served until September 1945, where he trained as an airplane mechanic. He served in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples, India and Burma. He received several medals and badges including the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Ribbon, AP Service Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star and Service Ribbon with four Bronze Stars. He married Marguerite Dennis on Dec. 22, 1945, in McAlester. He worked for 25 years at the Naval Ammunition Depot in McAlester as an automotive mechanic. He was a member of the Harrison-Powers Post No. 79 American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Eva Perteet; a son, Dennis Perteet and a brother, Leon Perteet.
