CLAYTON, Louise Aurich, died peacefully in a Richmond hospital with her husband by her side on November 2, 2008, after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer.

She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Ed (Edsel) Clayton.

Her determination and spirit during her illness was an inspiration to all. A lifelong Virginian, she was born in Petersburg, Va., spending most of her life in Chesterfield County, with the last 11 years in Mathews County. She graduated from Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Va., and attended John Tyler Community College, Chesterfield, Va. She was a retired employee from the Defense Supply Center Richmond. She loyally supported her husband in his military career, traveling with him whenever possible. She assisted with the activated soldiers family support groups when her husband was activated during Desert Storm. She was a member of the Central Virginia Lupus Foundation, where she volunteered her time. She was always willing to help others. She was a beautiful, strong woman and was loved by all who came in contact with her. Everyone will always remember her beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. She was active in her church, Salem United Methodist, Diggs, Va. She was active in and loved to attend the Mathews Farmers Market, selling her crafts and vegetables. She was an active member in the Mathews Newcomers Club and a member in waiting of the Mathews Yacht Club.

Ed will receive friends at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va., Tuesday, November 4, 2008 between 6 and 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs, Va., Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11 a.m., after which attendees are welcome to join in a light reception sponsored by the ladies of the church. Following will be a memorial graveside service at Dale Memorial Park in Chesterfield County at 3:30 p.m., where she will be interred. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church building fund, Diggs, Va., Central Virginia Lupus Foundation, or Branches Baptist Church, Richmond, where she was in their prayers during her illness while in Richmond.
