Joseph C. Batchelor, aged 76 years, died at his home in Howell Street this morning at 11 o'clock following a two months' illness.

Mr. Batchelor was a retired businessman, having moved to Canandaigua from Scranton, Pa., in 1901.

He was born at Waverly N.Y., on February 28, 1847, where he resided until 21 years of age. He then went into business at Scranton, Pa, with the Delaware and Hudson Canal company, with which corporation he was connected until his retirement in 1901.

Mr. Batchelor was an active church worker, having held an official position in church life since he was made an elder in the Waverly Presbyterian church when 21 years of age. Later he was connected with the Congregational church of that place, and was a member and deacon in Canandaigua Congregational church at the time of his death.

Deceased leaves his wife, and one son, Ward A. Batchelor of Moylan, Pa.

Funeral services will be held from the home tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. George E. Finlay of the Baptist church officiating. The remains will be taken to Philadelphia for interment in West Laurel Hill cemetery, Thursday morning.
