His father was David Bisset, born in Scotland. His mother was Katherine Finn Bisset, born in Ireland. David A. married Mattie Belle Overstreet of Kentucky. He was in the Class of 1864 at V.M.I. He resigned to join the Confederate Army. He served with Company E of the 13th Virginia Cavalry. He was wounded in action and captured near Manassas Gap in 1863. He was held at Point Lookout and exchanged in March of 1864. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant on October 24, 1864. He was a farmer, civil engineer and Sherriff of Mercer County post-bellum.
