Herbert Paul Mehner, the third of six children born to Gustav Hermann Mehner (1860-1900) and Katharine Riefkohl Mehner (1866-1951); siblings were Carl Ferdinand Mehner (1889-1961), William Richard Mehner (1891-1972), Otto Edward Mehner (1896-1918), George Herman Mehner (1898-1923) and Anna Frances Mehner Cook (1900-1984)(my grandmother).
Herbert married on 24 October 1916 Beulah "Nancy" Kelly (1898-1986) and they had three children:
(1) Ruth Marie Mehner (1919-1997; and,
(2) Lucie Ellen Virginia Mehner (1923-2007) and
(3) Mary Jane Mehner (1928-1928).
Herbert died at the age of 56 on April 7, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas. In the San Antonio Light Newspaper, Saturday, April 9, 1949, p. 3, column 7:"Heart Attack Fatal to S. A. Man" H. P. Mehner, 55, of 514 Cottonwood Ave., died of a heart attack Friday night in the Gunter hotel where he was house detective."A bellboy found Mehner slumped in a chair. Mehner died before a pulmotor and doctor arrived."
