BIG FOUR WRECK.
THREE TRAINMEN KILLED IN WASHOUT ACCIDENT NEAR LAFONTAINE.
Wabash, Ind., May 19 -- Three trainmen were killled when a Big Four frieght train, southbound, ran into a washout at Grant Creek, near LaFontaine, nine miles south of this city, last night. A bridge had been swept away by flood waters and the engine and six cars piled into the creek. The wreckage caught fire.
The dead are: Frank V. McClintock, age 49, Anderson, engineer; Homer L. Miller, Wabash, fireman; and Simon Pfeil, Anderson, head brakeman.
All streams in the south part of Wabash County are overflowing due to a rainfall of more than three inches in that part of the county late Wednesday.

WAS COSTLY WRECK.
FREIGHT TRAIN WENT THROUGH BRIDGE AT LaFONTAINE LAST WEEK -- THREE KILLED AND PROPERTY DAMAGE $125,000.
On Wednesday night of last week a southbound freight train on the Big Four broke through a bridge at the south edge of LaFontaine and three men were killed: Simon Pfeil, brakeman, Frank McClintock, Engineer and Homer L. Miller, fireman.
There was a terrible rain in that locality on Wednesday, and the abutments were weakened and when the heavy engine got onto the bridge it went down followed by the tender and it was followed by eight cars -- one of them being a car of coal oil. The oil tank was bursted and the oil caught on fire, and the departments from Wabash and Marion were called and fought the fire. Further north the train telescoped in two places piling cars on both sides of the depot, but the building was not injured.
Wrecking crews were called from Wabash and Indianapolis and late Friday afternoon a temporary bridge had been made across the creek, but a new one will have to be built at a cost of about $60,000. Besides the loss of three lives the wreck will cost the railroad company about $125,000, then it will take about $30,000 to repair the engine as it had to be almost cut to pieces to get it out of the creek.
