Verna May Farmer was born in 1891 in Barton County, Missouri. During her youth, she moved with her family members to Ft. Scott, Kansas where she received her education. She later attended Pittsburg State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas and received her teacher's certificate.

Verna married Cleo L. Britton on April 29, 1914 at Ft. Scott, Kansas and later established their home in Wayside before moving to Dewey, Oklahoma in 1915. Verna and Cleo had at least one child, a daughter, Hazel. Cleo died in 1943 and is buried in Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney, Kansas.

Verna May (Farmer) Britton then married Joseph Claude Anderson in November, 1955 in Bartlesville, Washington County, Oklahoma. No children were born during this marriage. Verna and Claude Anderson made their home in rural Dewey, Oklahoma, for the next few years before moving to Ochelata, Oklahoma in 1959. Verna was a charter member of the Fire Baptist Holiness Church in Ochelata. She also helped organize the Post Oak Home Demonstration Club.

Verna, 78, and Claude Anderson, 82, were both killed in an automobile accident near Cleveland, Pawnee County, Oklahoma on October 19, 1970. Joint funeral services were held in the Ochelata School Gymnasium officiated by Rev. Edward Luelf, pastor of the Fire Baptist Holiness Church. Interment was under the direction of Arnold Moore Funeral Service in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney, Montgomery County, Kansas, where she was laid to rest by her first husband, Cleo L. Britton.

I found Verna May's grave at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney Ks where she is buried next to her first husband Cleo Loyal Britton married in 1914. I believe this Verna is the same one that was Joseph Claude Anderson's second wife married in 1955.
