Samuel Fox was the son of Solomon and Caroline "Waller" Mordecai. He married his cousin, Judith Ellen Mordecai, on 4 Feb 1850. They were the parents of one child, Margaret Lane, called "Mag", and another child was on the way, when Samuel suddenly contracted a fever and died at his farm at Scotland Neck on the Roanoke River, NC. Their son, Samuel Fox, Jr. was born three months and a few days after the untimely death of his father.
