Professional Football Player. He was born Lander McCoy Bacon in Cadiz, Kentucky, and raised in Ironton, Ohio. He played at the defensive end and defensive tackle positions for fourteen seasons (1968 to 1981) in the National Football League with the Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins. After attending Jackson State University, Bacon was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Rams and was part of a defense that included star players Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen, Roger Brown and Lamar Lundy. Bacon became one of the top pass rushers in the NFL during the 1970s. His career highlights include four-time All-Pro status (1971 to 1972, 1976 to 1977) and three-time Pro Bowl selection (1972, 1976 to 1977). He appeared in 180 career regular season games. In addition, he played with the Washington Federals of the United States Football League. After retiring from football, Bacon became a motivational speaker.
