Civil War Union veteran of the 19th Indiana Infantry, Company A. He was from Anderson, Madison Co., Indiana and mustered in to the service on July 29, 1861. Just eight months later, he died of what was called "lung fever" at the Patent Office Hospital in Washington, D. C. Less than one month later, his wife Elizabeth died, leaving their nine children orphaned.
