He was 16 when he was working at a gas station on cars in Springerville, AZ. Some how he got to close to a heater and caught on fire. A family friend, Chris Archuleta, tried to put him out but Frankie kept trying to run away. The family speculates he may have been trying to get to the bathroom. He was driven to the town of St.Johns, AZ where the doctors determined he needed more medical help. He was flown to Phoenix, AZ and the family states he died in the minute his plane touched down.

death certificate states he died from Respiratory failure due to near total 2nd degree at and 3rd degree burns. Sadly he suffered from 7:30 am to 1:10 pm that day on April 1, 1959.
