"Spencerville-Veda M Baldwin, 89, of Haines City, Fla, formerly of Spencerville, died at 3:32 a m Oct 16, 2009 at St Rita's Medical Center, following a sudden illness.
She was born June 19, 1920 in Shawnee Township to Odus & Opal Christopher Mathewson, who preceded her in death. On May 19, 1940, she married John Mack Baldwin, who died Dec 3, 1992.
Mrs Baldwin was a 1938 graduate of Shawnee High School. She was a member of First Christian Church, Haines City, Fla, and a former member of Spencerville United Church of Christ. She was a 67 year member of Chapter 130 Order of Eastern Star, Spencerville, where she was a past matron, and had served as a deputy grand matron of District 8 OES in 1964.
Survivors include two sons, Wilbur L (Phyllis) Baldwin of Schaumburg, Ill and John A Baldwin of Spencerville; her special friend, Robert J Schank of Haines City, Fla; five grandchildren, Leanne McRill of Streamwood, Ill, Dawn (Dale) Adams of Margate, Fla; Judith (Mike) Schefe of Royal Palm Beach, Fla and Joseph A Baldwin and Jennifer S Baldwin, both of Spencerville; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kevin & Garret McRill, David & Drew Adams and Katelynn & Melissa Schefe and a sister-in-law, Irene Akers of Nokomis, Fla.
She was precedd in death by a brother, John H Akers; her stepmother, Alma Clark; and a grandson-in-law, Greg McRill.
Services will begin at 10:30 a m Monday at Thomas E Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Rev R Vincent Lavieri will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p m Sunday at the funeral home, where an OES service will be held at 8 P M.
Memorial contibutions may be made to the Joint Temple Building Fund."
