On September 18, 1902, 27-year-old barber Byron Chapman of Plainwell, MI, married Ida M. Armstrong, 21, also of that village, in a civil ceremony in Allegan, MI. Their daughter, Myrtha, was born on March 19, 1904.
In 1910, the Chapmans were enumerated in Niles, Berrien County, MI, where Byron had his own barber shop, but they relocated to Los Angeles County, CA, due to his ill health. He passed away there on January 7, 1916, and was interred three days later in Inglewood rather than his home state due to finances. His wife and daughter returned to Michigan, where Ida remarried in 1918.
Byron has many descendants by virtue of his daughter Myrtha Brazier, who passed away in 1997 at the age of 92.
Sincere thanks to volunteer photographer Miriam for locating and photographing Byron's headstone—a memorial from his brother Earl.
