OTTUMWA - Leonard William Byrum, 82, of 729 Pocahontas Lane, died Oct. 26, 1996, at home.He was born Feb., 7, 1914, in Eddyville to Leonard and Mae (Foster) Byrum. He married Elba White, May 11, 1938, in Ottumwa, Wapello Co., Iowa.
He lived in Ottumwa all his life and worked for Iowa/Illinois Gas and Electric for 34 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ottumwa.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Larry of Russellville, Ark., Richard of Ottumwa and Dan of Kirksville, Mo; a daughter, Karen James of Kirksville, Mo; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, JoAnne Manley and sister.
The service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Church, the Rev. Anthony Herold Officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. today at Alexander Johnson Funeral chapel with Christian Wake sercice at 6 p.m. and family present until 8 p.m.
Paulbearers will be Richard and Dustin Byrum, Gary Long, Joe Scheball, Paul and John White.
