Valentine Doran (also spelled Doren) was a United States soldier in the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865.
With the outbreak of the war he volunteered and served as a member of the 69th New York State Militia Regiment for three months service. After being discharged from the 69th Militia he re-enlisted and is mustered into service as a Private in Company F of the 82nd New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment on September 25th, 1861, at New York City, New York, for three years service at the age of 36. He was wounded in action on May 31st, 1862, at Fair Oaks, Virginia, and as a result of these wounds he was discharged on August 26th, 1862, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After recovering he re-enlisted on July 27th, 1863, at New York City, New York, for three years service and was mustered into service as a Private in Company A of the 38th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment on September 14th, 1863. The 38th Veteran Regiment was merged with several other veteran regiments that were organizing in New York City at the time, and the company was assigned as Company K of the 17th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment on October 14th, 1863. He served with the regiment in its campaigns in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama. During his service he was taken ill and then died of disease on June 30th, 1864 (sometimes shown as 1865), at Post Hospital No. 1 in Decatur, Alabama. He was at first buried near Decatur, Alabama, but was later disinterred and reburied at the National Cemetery in Corinth, Mississippi.
