Vera Marie Nichols Allen, 97, passed away September 12, 2008, at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.
She was born September 5, 1911, at Leslie, Idaho, to Alfred Wilson Nichols, and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Wilcox Nichols. Vera went to school at Lost River and rode a horse to the Arco High School. When she attended the Arco High School, she would ride a horse four miles, tie the horse up to a hitching post, then go into a little building close by, change her clothes into a dress and long stockings, then attend classes.
She married Jack Moore, July 31, 1928, in Arco, Idaho. Two children were born in this union, Colleen Marie, and Blanche Molloy.
She divorced Jack, after sixteen years, then married Robert Merrill Woodward, October 10, 1945, in Burbank, California. To this union was born Donald Merrill Woodward.
Vera divorced Robert, after three years, Then married Marvin Temple Allen October 23, 1948 in Boise, Idaho. To this union was born Irene Elaine, June 18, 1949. Marvin and Vera had Donald's name changed from Woodward to Allen after Marvin adopted him. Marvin Allen and Vera Nichols were sealed in the Logan, Utah, Temple October 30, 1968.
Marvin Allen died August 13, 1991 in their home in Taylorsville, Utah.
Marvin worked in various mines in Idaho. After he retired, he and Vera were assistant managers of a trailer park.
Vera was very active in the L.D.S. Church. She worked in the L.D.S. Hospital until the new L.D.S. Church Office building was constructed. She then worked as the supervisor of the janitorial clean crew in the Church Office building. She retired when she was 71 years of age.
There will be a graveside service Wednesday in the West Jordan City Cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred W. Nichols, and Elizabeth (Lissy) Wilcox Nichols and all of her ten sisters, and three brothers. Her sisters were Margaret (Maggie) Gordon Nichols, Tremayne; Olga May Nichols Waite, Effie Pennina Nichols; Pearl Lee Irvan Nichols, Samworth; Lela Wilson Nichols, Vaught; Alfred Iverson Nichols, Stella Molloy Nichols Edwards; Kenneth Alvin Nichols; Ava LaVelle Nichols Jameson; Guthrie Theodore Nichols; Flossie Davis Nichols Townsend; Laurene Nichols Wild; Rosetta Nichols; also two daughters, Colleen, and Blanche.
