Mrs. Priscilla Edwards
Had Spent Half of Her Long Life in Southern Slavery

Mrs. Priscilla Edwards, colored, one of the oldest women in this city and Tippecanoe county, passed away yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Seals, No. 1303 South Nineteenth street. Her death was caused by infirmities of old age, as she was past 92. For many months she had been in failing health and her death brings to a close a noteworthy life. The deceased was born in Lebanon, Wilson county, middle Tennessee, in the year 1810, and for 42 years following she was a slave, owned by many masters in the sunny south. At the outbreak of the civil war she came north and had for many years made this city her home. Five children survive viz: Marcus and Sandy Edwards, Mrs. Rebecca Seals, Mrs. Fanny White, and Mrs. Delia Smith. The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Second Baptist church and interment will be in Greenbush cemetery.
