HANKSVILLE - Darys Fredrick Ekker, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Kolob Care Center in Cedar City, with his loved ones at his side.

Darys was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Hanksville, to Cornelius Ekker and Edna Gibbons. He was the sixth of 12 children.

He married Clella May Lance Nov. 23, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple Dec. 21, 1968. After Clella's passing, he married Ellesa (Jackson) Day April 9, 1996, in Mesquite, Nev.

Darys lived in Hanksville all his life. He never had any desire to leave. He loved the country, from the Henry Mountains to the San Rafael Desert. He loved his music, and in the end, it gave him much comfort.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and held many different positions.

He was loved by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Ellesa; two sons and two daughters; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Hanksville LDS Ward Chapel. Interment was in the Hanksville Cemetery.
