Iileene was the daughter of Emma Viola (Wilson) and Coly Whitlow Rhodes of Benton County. She said the first time she saw Lonnie Goolsby she was only about 12 but she told her sister she was going to marry him. Four years later, in 1932 she did just that.
Their first child, Faye, was born in 1933. They eventually had 3 more daughters and 3 sons.
They were share croppers for a long time until in the late 50's they were able to buy a small lumber mill. This enabled them to buy a house and land of their own.
Though poor they were healthy and raised almost everything they ate. Iileen was a skilled seamstress as well. She could take the smallest supplies and turn them into food better than most wealthier people could imagine.
