Son of Frederick and Mary Merriman. Born in Ohio Township, Allegheny County, PA.

Drafted into Company B, 101st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.

He was a plasterer.

On March 15, 1890, he had a cerebral hemorrhage in the storeroom of J. Watson. He was paralyzed on one side of his body with his leg and arm rendered unusable. Medical records contradict on which side the stroke occurred. His death on May 2, 1893 was directly related to this cerebral hemorrhage.
