Jerry Walter Ashmead was shot in the back as he walked from his home to the road that would take him to the saw mill where he worked. His killer stood over him so that Jerry would know who had killed him. Jerry's family heard his cry for help and brought him back to his home. It took Jerry three hours to bleed to death. The doctor could do nothing to save his life. The arrest of his murderer and the subsequent trial was documented in the local newspapers.
