Arthur Bruce Vanscoy was the son of Emmett Burkey Vanscoy and Lucinda J Parsons. Sometime in the 1890's Arthur moved to California from West Virginia. Around 1896 he married Grace Amelia Pugh and settled down in San Luis Obispo, CA. By 1930, Arthur and Grace had moved to Soledad in Monterey Co. CA.

Arthur and Grace had three children:

- Arthur Worthington Vanscoy
- Violet V Vanscoy
- Althea H Vanscoy
