Emit Akins

Statesboro - Emit L. Akins, 79, died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah after a short illness.

The native of Bulloch County had lived in Statesboro all of his life. He established the W.C. Akins and Sons Hardware Store in 1919, which he owned and operated until his death. He was a member of the Statesboro Rotary Club and an honorary member of the Portal Hunting Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emit L. Akins of Statesboro; two sons, Lowell and Bucky Akins, both of Statesboro, a sister, Mrs. Sudie A. Fulford of Swainsboro; a half-brother, Robbie Akins of Statesboro; and two grandsons and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Smith-Tillman Mortuary of Statesboro is in charge.
