World War II British Royal Navy Figure. Born Albert Edward Pryke Briggs, he was the longest living survivor of the sinking of the HMS Hood and the best known of her crew. In July 1939, he joined HMS Hood's company as a Seaman and was aboard during the famous battle when the German battleship Bismarck sank the Hood, May 24, 1941. He was one of only three men (out of a crew of over 1400) to be rescued. Following the war Briggs remained in the Navy, retiring as an officer in February 1973. In retirement, he was a much sought after guest speaker for numerous television documentaries, films and radio programs. He was also author of the book, "Flagship Hood" and President of the HMS Hood Association.
