Newton Odell Ballard, 87, retired farmer and Berivon Corp., died Monday, July 18, 2005, at Riley Hospital due to injuries from an auto accident. Services are 2 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Meridian with burial in Devoe Cemetery in Clarke County.

Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sheppard Ballard; father, I.N. Ballard and mother, Lula M. Beckman Ballard; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie M. Baggett and Mrs. Mary Elsie Pogue; and two brothers, Mr. Lee Edward Ballard and Mr. Artist Lavelle Ballard.

Newton Odell Ballard was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and saw action in Germany.

Mr. Ballard is survived by his sister, Vivian B. Robinson of Ridgeland, and the following nieces and nephews and their children: Sherrill Robinson Evans and children, Robert and Kimberly Evans of Brandon, Dee Evans-Mangold and husband, Martin of Ridgeland, Marcus Evans and wife, Cena of Laurel, Norma Faye Pogue Lee and husband, Fred, and children, Scott, Randy Jennifer, and Ricky of Toccoa, Ga., Virginia Pogue Carter and children, Suzette and Tommie Ann of Leeds, Ala., Diane Pogue Shirley of Meridian and children, Carla of Memphis, Tenn., and Erik and wife, ShyAnn of Livingston, Ala., Gerald Pogue and wife, Shine, and daughter, Jamie Garvin and husband, Chad of Newton, Miss., Christopher H. Robinson and wife, Sandra, and children, Krisitine Ring and Harold of Huntsville, Ala., The Michael Ballard Family of Snyder, Texas, also Max Douglas Evans, friend, of Meridian.
