Ruth Vaughn Clodfelter of Roanoke, VA, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at age 97 years. Her life spanned many years of work at the American Viscose Plant and then as a nurse at Shenandoah Hospital, Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Salem Veterans Hospital where she received the Outstanding Nurse Award in the 1970s, and the Lewis Gale Psychiatric Hospital. She truly was a loving and giving person to her family and many patients. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Lloyd Clodfelter; and all of her sisters and brothers, Bessie McKinney, Walter Vaughn, John Vaughn, Arlena Jones, and Tom Vaughn; her sister-in-law, Callie Clodfelter; and her special nephews, Harry P. McKinney Jr. and Bobby McKinney. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, her great-niece and caregiver, Tina M. Weiner & husband, Keith, Doris McKinney; great-nephew, Harry McKinney III & wife, Candice; and her great-great nephews, Harry and Christopher McKinney. She is also survived by two long time friends, Iris Lloyd and Lucille Slayton. Special thanks to the folks at Magnolia Ridge Assisted Living for their loving care of Aunt Ruth during these last few years, and Dr. Steven Collins. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, in Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Walter Wood will officiate. Memorials may be made to the New Life Christian Ministries, originally Melrose Pentecostal Holiness Church, where Ruth's father was pastor. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.
