Hans Andersen
Hans Andersen was born February 11, 1904 at Lake Benton, MN to Mathias and Karen Iversen Andersen. He graduated from Lake Benton High School in 1923 and received his Bachelors degree at St. Olaf College in Northfield in 1927.
He then did graduate work as a teaching assistant at Oklahoma A&M, Stillwater, OK. receiving a masters degree in 1929. He then received his PH.D from the University of Iowa at Iowa City, Iowa in 1931. He married Helen Pearce on August 7, 1933 at Louisville, Kentucky. Hans was employed by the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo, MI. from 1931 until 1948 working as a biochemist. From 1948 until he retired in 1969 he was a chemist with Cutter Laboratories in Berkley, CA working in biological and analytical chemistry.

Hans was a member of the American Chemical Society for over 50 years. His interests included gardening, reading, photography, and collecting stamps, rocks and shells.

Hans died Monday, February 22, 1993 at the Beverly Manor in San Francisco, CA at the age of 89 years and 12 days.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 2, 1993 at Utoft-Johansen Funeral Chapel in Lake Benton. Pastor Tom Reagan officiated.

Diane Evers served as organist. Congregational hymns used included "Amazing Grace," and "Rock of Ages."

Casketbearers were Ivan Meyer, Marvin Meyer, Harlan Meyer, Mark Meyer and Melvin Meyer.

Interment was at Diamond Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Diamond Lake Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota.

Arrangements were by Utoft-Johansen Funeral Home, Lake Benton, MN, Evan Rogers, director.

Mr. Andersen is survived by one son H. P. Andersen of San Francisco, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen on December 30, 1981, one brother and one sister.
