Wife of Spruce McCoy Baird. Mother of Andrew Bowdry, Margaret Helen, James Spruce, Agnes Aurora and Pearl B.

Described in 1877 in letter to Golden Globe, by visiting family home still standing today at 921 9th Street:: "On the North side are many very fine residences and beautifully laid out grounds among which may be mentioned that of Mrs. Baird, a lovely place; the house is a frame one, with one story, built in the Southern style of architecture, with its numerous porticos and porches surrounded by lattice work, and the yard with shady looking, cozy arbors. Did I think I would be given further space to digress in my letter I would tell of the lovely woman, the widow of Judge Baird, who is Mistress of this quiet looking but exceedingly lovely home; the stately, queenly woman, of noble mien and commanding presence. If there ever was a warm spot in the heart of the writer for one whom she could feel was nearly like mother and whom she felt could fill that place as well as mother filled it, it has been for this most excellent and lovable of women."
