Born at Wappingers Fall, N.Y., living in Hartland and Barkhamsted as a young man. He enlisted in the 13th Connecticut Regiment on December 22, 1861. He served honorably and was discharged on January 6, 1865. Mr. Simmons, a Winsted resident for about thirty-five years, was an active member of the G.A.R. post, and served as vice commander of the Connecticut encampment. He was an agent of the Connecticut Humane Society for twenty-five years and was manager of the Winsted baseball team for several seasons. He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Walter Wells of Riverside, R.I., Miss Pearl Simmons of Winstead, Alva N. Soimmons of North Stoughton, Mass, Roys Simmons of Boston and Burton Simmons of Winsted.
