John William Ruckman was born September 29, 1868 in Helena, Karnes County, Texas. He was the eldest of the eight children of John and Eliza Dickson Ruckman. He married Emily Louise "Lula" Haskins on April 25, 1894. They had four children, Frank, Dick, Louise, and Roberta. Both daughters died in childhood. John and Lula built their home in Karnes City, Texas, where he was President of the Karnes County National Bank. Both are buried in the Karnes City Cemetery.
