He was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Gainesville, Mo., the son of Albert I. and Verda R. (Daniel) Gaulding. He grew up in Missouri and attended school there.
In October 1942 he entered the U.S. Navy and served aboard an infantry landing craft carrier during World War II.
He Then moved to Neosho Falls and operated a Station and Tire Store. In 1948 he opened OK Tire Store in Yates Center and in 1950 he opened Gaulding Oil Co. which he operated until 1988 when he turned the business over to his son and daughter.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3739 and American Legion Post 13 of Yates Center and member of the Christian Church and served on the Yates Center Cemetery Board and Zoning Board for many years.
On Jan. 20, 1945, he was married to Cecile M. Beary in Stockton, Calif.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Bob and his wife, Penney, Yates Center; a daughter, Brenda and her husband, John Schinstock, Yates Center; four grandchildren, Shelley Sparks and her husband, Tim, Emporia, Tracy Gaulding, Bartlesville, Okla., Corey Schinstock and his wife, Laura, Iola, and Brandon Gaulding and his wife, Angela, Yates Center; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Norma Mitchell, Hutchinson, and Joan Williams, Wichita Falls, Texas.
A brother, Albert I. Jr., died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Campbell Funeral Home Tuesday in Yates Center. Interment will be in Yates Center Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 13.
Memorials to Yates Center Volunteer Fire Department of American Legion Post No. 13 may be left at the funeral home.
