SPRINGFIELD - Ida Marie Achas, 85, of Springfield died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born in Paxton, May 21, 1921, the daughter of Robert and Leitha Lamb Barr. She married Anthony "Tony" Achas and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Lance Corp. Robert J. "Butch" Achas, USMC killed in action in Vietnam in 1965, and Gary "Hippy" Achas in 2007; two brothers; and a sister.
Mrs. Achas retired in 1973 from St. John's Hospital where she served more than 25 years as a nurse's aide. She was a member of the DAV Hagler Post Chapter 15, Catholic Charities, and was a Gold Star Mother. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Surviving are her three sons, Charles "Chuck" Achas, Donald "Donnie" Achas, both of Springfield, and Patrick "Pat" (wife, Kathy) Achas of Riverton; two daughters, Linda "Lynn" (husband, George) Kunkel of Springfield and Barbara "Barb" (husband, Stuart) Cherry of Janesville, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory, and services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Gold Star Mothers, 2128 Leroy Place NW, Washington, D.C. 20008
