Wasilla resident David Laurel Robbins, 73, died May 22, 2006, at home of natural causes. A viewing was held with a funeral at First Baptist Church of Wasilla on Bogard Road. The Rev. Fred Stroud officiated. Interment was at Angelus Memorial Park in Anchorage.

Mr. Robbins was born Jan. 26, 1933, in Rapid City, S.D., and graduated from Rapid City High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. He served two years with the U.S. Army in Korea. He came to Alaska in 1977, living in Anchorage until 2000, when he moved to Wasilla. He was chief of the Construction/Operations Division in Alaska with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in November 1990. He was awarded the Bronze Order of the De Fleury Medal and numerous commendations for his service with the corps and enjoyed watching movies and sports, working in his yard, visiting with friends and relatives and playing golf. His family said: "In his younger days, Dave enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling. Of all the places he has lived in his life, he loved Alaska the best and called it home. He was loved very much and will be missed by his family and friends."

He is survived by his wife, Mija Robbins of Wasilla; son, Everett Robbins of Anchorage; daughter, Kim Vik of Seattle; daughter-in-law, Cathy Robbins of Anchorage; son-in-law, Geir Vik of Seattle; grandsons, Sean Robbins of Anchorage, Brian Robbins of San Diego and Lars Vik of Seattle; granddaughters, Sarah Robbins of Anchorage and Laila Vik of Seattle; and sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Vic Gladbach of Mendon, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane, in Anchorage 99503. Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home of Wasilla.
