Rockton - Ruth May Schafman, 85, of Rockton died at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born July 23, 1923, in Rockford, the daughter of Walter and Hattie (LaTour) Peterson. Married John Schafman in Dubuque, Iowa. Ruth was employed by Barber Colman for many years. Attended Old Stone United Church of Christ, Rockton, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Rockford. Graduated from Winnebago High School.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Greene of Port Clinton, Ohio; son, Arnold (Karen) Schafman of Chicago; daughters, Diana (Geoff) Bue of Beloit, WI; Beverly (Tom) Greene of Tipp City, Ohio; and Karen (Roger) Meyer of Sugar Grove; grandchildren, Michael (Beth) Greene, Jeff (Jill) Greene, Dan (Jenny) Greene, Emma and Ana Schafman, Greg (Emily) Greene, Brian Greene, Charlie Greene and Jenna Meyer; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Eddie of Phoenix, Pauline Pauletto, Mary (Lyle) Sheley, Hattie Oberg, all of Rockford, Doris Jennings of Myrtle, MO., and Margaret Nesheim of Rockford; brother, Gilbert (Sharon) Peterson of Rockford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; husband; and sisters, Farol Anderson and Donna Rae Peterson.
