The Houf Family:***Peter Houf Sr. came to America from Germany prior to the, American Revolution, in 1754 and settled in Pennsylvania.**His son Peter the 2nd was born in 1785. Later young Peter removed to Augusta County, Virginia during the great German migration into the Shanandoah Valley. In 1812 he married Mary Eve Sommers, daughter of Johanns and Elizabeth (Reidenaur) Sommers.**Peter served as a Private in the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen Virginia Militia during the war of 1812.**In 1822 he sold his land in Virginia and moved with his family, wife and six children, to Callaway County, Missouri where he settled about four miles North of Fulton, a farm still owned by the family. The children were: Susana, Elizabeth, Henry L., David S., Mary B. and Jacob M.
