John Brennan (1888-1962)was a son of Pat Brennan (1853-1915) and Ellen Frizzle (1861-1935) of Rhue, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo, Ireland. His siblings were Mary Anne Brennan DeVito (1885-1941), James P. Brennan (1886-1968), Margaret Walsh Carros (1890 - 1976) and Patrick J. Brennan (1892-1981). John arrived in the US on 7 April 1910 at Boston. He stayed there for some time with his sister Mary Anne and her husband Bill DeVito. He moved to Chicago, Ill. in 1912 where he was employed by the Central Illinois Railroad Company. He enlisted in the US army on 3 October 1917 at Camp Grant, Ill. He served in France with the A.E.F. in Co A, 35th Engineers, based at Camp Pullman, La Rochelle. His service no was 182976. He was promoted from Private to Corporal during his military service. He became a naturalised US citizen on 1 May 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey on his way home to the USA. He was honourably discharged on 8 May 1919 at Camp Grant, Ill. On 26 October 1922 he married Marion Josephine Smith from Galway, Ireland, whom he had met in 1914. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Calumet Council, Ill. He retired in May 1960 from the Railroad and had the bad luck to become ill almost immediately. He succumbed to cancer of the brain on 8 December 1962, having been in hospital for 4 months.
