Funeral services for James E. [Ethan] Adams, 83, were held at graveside in Hildreth cemetery near Carlisle at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Adams died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Wallace, in Paducah, Monday night [22 Aug 1960] after a long illness.
Rev. Eunis Crowe and Rev. Carl Wilson officiated.
Mrs. Adams spent most of his life in Houston and Stewart counties as a farmer until his retirement. He was a member of the Scott's Chapel Free Will Baptist church. His wife, Mrs. Julia Walker Adams, died in 1953. Since that time he had made his home with his children.
Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Wallace, are three older daughters, Mrs. Annie Slaughter, Cumberland City, Mrs. Herbert [(Ethel)] Lehman, Woodlawn, and Mrs. Glenn [(Sally)] Adams, Granite City, Ill.; a son, Oakley Adams, Sanford, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Lou Lewis, Tennessee Ridge, and several grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbearers. Wiseman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
