Fred Bazzani, 75, of Waveland died at 1:40 am Friday in Culver Union Hospital at Crawfordsville. He had been a carpet layer for 45 years and had worked for the US Postal Service for 26 years, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Bazzani had coached baseball for Waveland Little League. He started the Waveland Fire Department in 1951, with the assistance of Clarhud Moore.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Presidential Citation for Meritorious Service; was a 50-year member of the Waveland American Legion Post; member of Browns Valley Christian Church; Rural Letter Carriers Association; National Association of Civil Conservation Corps; and was a Cub Scout Leader.
Mr. Bazzani was a 1938 graduate of Clinton High School and attended Rose Poly Institute.
He was born Aug. 26, 1920, at Universal, Ind., to Antonio and Carolina Berti Bazzani. He was first married to Kathryn G. Smith on April 20, 1946, at West Terra Haute. She died in 1982. He was then married to Doris Simpson on Jan. 13, 1983, at Paris, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary and Larry, both of Waveland; a daughter, Mrs. James (Karen) Zach of Crawfordsville; a sister, Alice Certain of Clinton; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
A brother is deceased.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Monday in Powers-Pribe Funeral Home at Crawfordsville witht he Rev. Ron Whitacre officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the funeral home 3-7 pm Sunday. Military rites will be conducted by the Crawfordsville Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
