Mary was a true pioneer woman arriving in America at the age of 4. She married David Moe when she was 21. As a dutiful wife of the times, she traveled with her husband from Illinois to the gold fields of Kansas narrowly escaping the Civil War, and then onto California, having babies along the trail in the mining camps. When the gold mining did not pan out and she had had enough, she took her children in tow, back to Kendall County, Illinois and after burying two of her daughters, lived out the remainder of her life.
