John Allen (1786-1873)

John was killed in 1807, not far from the town of Millpoint, Pocahontas County, West Virginia, when a deer jumped out from the bushes beside the road and scared his horse. John was thrown from his horse and died instantly. John was buried not far from where this happened, in Hillsboro in the McNeel Cemetery. John's tombstone was made by his son, John Allen, a stonemason, from native rock. This tombstone draws as much, or more attention than any of the fine granite monuments in the cemetery. (It is possible that John was born between 1725-30, if so, he would have been 82 when he died, no proof has been found.)

After his death, Nellie, went to live with their son Patrick and his family in Arborvale, Pocahontas County West Virginia, until her death in 1825. Nellie is buried in the Patrick Bruffey Cemetery, Pocahontas County, West Virginia.

(I want to thank 2 cousins, Cheryl and Shirley, without their collaboration with me, this memorial would not have been possible.)
