She was the mother of ten children: George (possibly), Jennie (Lane), Walter (died at age 13), John Montesquieu, James Noah, Thomas Cicero, William Johnson, Edward Victor, Mary Viola (Byers), and Anna May (died at age 13).
She may have changed her maiden name to "Thorpe" since that's how all her children spelled it, and it's on her gravestone. Her maiden name was actually "Tharp."
Rachel died in Atlanta, DeKalb Co., GA, but was buried at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Guilford Co., NC. Many of her children and grandchildren are also buried there.
Her tombstone reads: Rachel Thorpe, Wife of M.V. Hobbs, Nov. 6, 1842 - July 3, 1927.
