OBITUARY:
Corwin Smith Snyder, 78, who had lived in Detroit Lakes since 1984, died Tuesday, March 6, at his home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 9 from United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. John Fair officiating.
There will also be a service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, from the Stennes Funeral Chapel at East Grand Forks.
Interment will be at the Alvarado Cemetery, with David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers at Detroit Lakes will be John Flatt, Dave Eidenschink, Jack Mission, Lee Young, Dr. Mark Lindquist, Dr. John Harris, Dr. William Henke, Mag McGarry, Brad Green and Dr. George Portilla.
The pallbearers in East Grand Forks will include Bob Sands, Neil Sands, Kurt Sands, Tom Sands, Robert Fering, Matt Edman, Dick Taylor, Cameron Batalden, Bob Little and Alan Booton.
Corwin Smith Snyder was born at Osceola, Nebr., on Nov. 11, 1911, graduated in 1929 from Boone (Ia.) High School and graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1936.
Mr. Snyder and Margaret Sands were married March 27, 1937, at Greeley, Colo.
He taught at Gull, Colo; Delta, Colo, at Anoka and Farmington in Minnesota and at Grand Forks from 1946 until retiring in 1961.
Mr. Snyder later worked for the U.S. Customs Service at Pembina until retiring in 1978 and continued to live at Pembina while wintering in Texas and Florida.
He was a member of the Selective Service board, the Grand Forks United Fund, the Masonic Lodge and Shrine, the Grand Forks Trades and Labor Assembly, the Grand Forks Elks Lodge and was active in the North Dakota DFL. He also was a founding insurgent of the Non-Partisan League.
Surviving are his wife - Margaret, Detroit Lakes; a son - Cowin "Buzz" Snyder, St. Cloud; six daughters - Sylvia Lehman and Mary Troftgruben, both of Grand Forks, N.D.; Carolyn Snyder-Stonebraker, Palo Alto, Calif; Annette Wigert, Henning; Anita Mayfield, Roseville, and Loretta Etzel, D. Farmington Hills, Mich., and a sister - Aljean Little, Grimes, Ia. There are 18 grandchildren.
