Richard J. Abbott, 82, of Sissonville, went to a better place Saturday, December 7, 2002, in CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston. He was retired from E. I. DuPont Corporation with 36 years of service. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Grapevine Community Chapel Church in Sissonville. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Cleo Slater Abbott; sons and daughters-in-law, Derrell Talbert of Houston TX, William "Bill" and Renea Abbott, Robert "Bob" and Olive Abbott, all of Kenna; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Abbott of Cross Lanes, Wanda and Rondis Cavender of Ripley, Denise and Don Raynes of Kenna, and Anita and Jimmie Whittington of Sissonville; brothers, Clyde Abbott of Clendenin and Robert Abbott of Canton OH; sisters, Elizabeth Bierwith of Huntington Beach CA, Pauline Parker, Irene Brisendine and Imogene Sloan, all of Clio; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. Services will be held today (December 11) at 1:00 p. m. at Allens Community Church in Sissonville, with the Rev. Don Blackwell and the Rev. Steve Ashby officiating. Burial will be in Slater Cemetery, Allens Fork, Sissonville. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston.
