Richard Dean Archer, 53, of Rockport, WV departed this life Thursday, November 3, 2005 at his residence.

He was born September 13, 1952 in Wood County, WV, a son of D.R. "Doc" and Deloris Duncan Archer of Rockport. Dean started his ministry in 1982 in the United Methodist Church, serving churches in Wirt County and Mineral Wells areas. For the last five years, Dean served the St. Matthew Charge, Limestone, Lowdell and Gates Ridge churches. Dean served nine years in the West Virginia Army National Guard. He was happy tending to the family farm and loved hunting and fishing with his sons. The loves of his life were his children and grandchildren and serving the Lord in ministry. He was a good father and was respected by friends and family.

In addition to his parents, Dean is survived by his wife of 34 years, Vera C. Archer; three sons, Timothy Archer and his wife, Ginger, of Milton, FL, David Archer and his friend, Jessica, of Rockport, WV and Jeremy Archer and his wife, Kaci, of Veneta, OR; three sisters, Patty Ann Knight and her husband, Mike, of Navarra, FL, Janet Scrithfield and her husband, Butch, of Rockport, WV and Sherry St.Clair and her husband, Mike, of Parkersburg, WV; one brother, the Reverend Donald Archer and his wife, Sandy, of Tunnel, OH; six grandchildren, Duncan, Logan, Haley, Tristin, Hayden and Tylor Archer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John Archer.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2005 at the Lowdell United Methodist Church in Rockport, WV with the District Superintendent of the Little Kanawha District, the Reverend Helen Davis Bell, and the Reverend Rick Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Jerry's Run Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion, Parkersburg Post 15. Friends may call from 1–4 and 6–8 p.m. Sunday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike Street, south Parkersburg, WV and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
