Died of Wounds
He enlisted in the Army on 18 Aug 1862 at New York City. He resided in New York City, was 19 years of age at the time of his enlistment, and was listed as being single. He was mustered in on 9/11/1862.
The New York State Adjutant General's Office records also state that he served as a drummer during his service.
He was severely wounded in the left thigh on 2 July 1863 in the heavy fighting on and around Culp's Hill during the Battle of Gettysburg.. The leg was later amputated, and he died 29 July 1863 at Letterman Hospital.
He was initially buried the next day in Section 1, Grave #2 of the hospital cemetery.
